Made his Open debut last summer as the second youngest winner of the Asian Tour Order of Merit and swiftly followed it with his first two victories on the PGA Tour, capturing the Wyndham Championship by five after a scintillating closing 61 and then the Shriners Children’s Open by three.

The latter victory included a third-round 62. In between he won his first Presidents Cup cap and had victories there alongside KH Lee and Si-woo Kim.

His Asian Tour title was clinched aged 19 at the SMBC Singapore Open, where four spots were on offer as part of The Open Qualifying Series and where he finished joint runner-up to Thailand’s Sadom Kaewkanjana a week after winning the Singapore International.

It was at the same event in 2020 that he earned a place at The 149th Open, finishing fourth, but Covid restrictions did not allow him to play.

Last July he came third in the Genesis Scottish Open, his first taste of true links golf, and would have been in a play-off with Xander Schauffele if he had birdied rather than bogeyed the final hole.
